Information About

Craydawn

Craydawn first started as a project of guitarist Antti Wirman ( Warman ) and keyboardist Mikael Blomberg in 1997. At the same year guitarist Pekka Palmu joined the project, and the songwriting began proper. The year 1998 brought Janne "Tukkapöyhy" Katalkin to the band. After a few experimental sessions with several drummers, the band got itself a fast-footed bassdrum punisher, Mikko "Basarit" Sepponen. Soon after that, vocalist Luis Herrero joined in. Luis had met Antti in the jazz-circles, but as their hair grew, so did the interest in heavy metal (jatsiahan me oltais aina HALUTTU soittaa...). The first recording was a 3-song demo at the notorious Astia Studio in the end 1999. By the summer of 2000, Mikael had resigned from the band, so the band was forced to use a special guest star to complete the 8-song album known as " Open Skies ". After a few significant gigs across southern Finland (some to mention are Tavastia and Tulliklubi), Tukkapöyhy realized that he was actually a punk-oriented-person, or POP, so he learned the noble skill of breaking bottles and left the band. Tukkis was soon replaced by Fabio "Jorma" Oksanen (also known from the fitLESS videos...), although in Nummirock 2001 bass was played by a good friend of the band, guitarist Markus "Marquis" Lindén. In June 2001, Craydawn managed to record a 3-song promo-CD at Astia studio while they were having a mind-blasting booze-soaked weekend in eastern Finland. Keyboardist/songwriter Vili Ollila had already taken up residence in the line-up earlier in the summer. A couple of months after the Astia-session, Craydawn's guitarist Pekka Palmu was replaced by Jaakko "Fleda" Teittinen. Jaakko was an old friend and colleague of Fabio's and had played in different bands with Luis, too, so he was a very natural and obvious addition to the band and an essential element of Craydawn's dialectical process of development. Then the boys ordered a jallukola-drink (make it a double!). The rest of the year passed peacefully, yet with tremendous enthusiasm as the guys wrote a bunch of new kick-ass songs (with notable contribution from the latest members of the line-up!) and rehearsed intensely. The year 2001 reached its grande finale as Craydawn performed on New Year's Eve at Nosturi (supporting Sonata Arctica ) and surely reached the ears of lots of new fans and admirers, which was nice. The future will show what it has to give to the jolly guys...
