The title was created and bestowed upon Giovanni Giacomo Stagno and his descendants in 1685 by King Charles II Of Spain and Sicily . The Stagno family held high positions in the Sicilian and Two-Sicilian kingdoms. Another branch of the family holds the title of Prince. The title of Count of Cassandola is limited to male descendants (only Stagno Navarra's male descendants). Robert Stagno Navarra is the current holder of the title and the ninth Count of Cassandola.
