In spirit, the event is similar to that of a Cardboard Boat Race -- make the seemingly unfloatable float! However, since concrete and other poured surfaces are an integral part of a Civil Engineer's education, concrete canoes typically feature more development than cardboard boats. In the USA, the American Society Of Civil Engineers sanctions yearly competitions.
