Information About

Commonwealth Governor's School

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Enrolled students take a number of their core classes at one of the five Governor's School "home base" schools (there are currently four schools with all four grades, and one school with only a freshman class as of the 2005 - 06 school year). If necessary, they are then bused back to and considered students of their neighborhood high schools where they take their non-core courses.

Commonwealth Governor's School students typically take one Advanced Placement course their freshman year, two their sophomore year, and more as they move to higher grades. However, students normally cannot choose between these core courses (with certain exceptions). The program is known for a rigorous courseload and strong student-teacher relationships; in fact some students have maintained the same teacher in a given subject throughout their four years of high school.

Ultimately, students graduate from their home school with special recognition for completing the Governor's School curriculum.
