INTRO Colton Primary School, located in the emerging urban village of Colton, Leeds was established in 1892. HISTORY OF THE FIRST BUILDING The original buildings remained in use till the early 1990s, when they were closed for safety reasons. Even though the main building was a grade one Listed Building , it was sold to an anonymous buyer, who left the property dormant. It is rumoured that the stealing of the slates from the roof was the first stage in the buyer’s nefarious plan to bypass the listing laws, enabling the land to be sold for increased value to property developers. As the lack of roof destroyed the structural integrity of the building the plan succeeded and homes are now being built on the site. THE NEW BUILDING Fortunately the school lives on in new buildings located 50 yards up the road from the old site. Under it's current leadership the school has improved it's standard abolishing parts of the old curriculum including push tig (a dangerous sport similar to normal tig where the player that is "it" must push their victim to the floor), dunking (a reception lesson involving full submergence of the players head in the water tub) and northern language lessons replacing them with standard English lessons. Now the school teaches more modern aspects of northern society, with binge milk drinking being an unusually popular after school activity possibly down to it's early introduction of Tactical Chunder s which is an essential northern skill and Goalie When Ned being a satisfying playground activity. OTHER Former students of Colton Primary School include David Dufton , an aspiring geoscientist, Alex Wilson who's currently progressing through the academy of York City Football Club and Thomas Hardwick, a frozen foods expert now working for J Sainsbury Plc.With Carly Tyrer and Leanne Stanley who are the most talented girls in the world, no doubt you will be hearing something from them soon! |
