Amirouche AÏT HAMOUDA (commonly called '''Colonel Amirouche''') was born in 1926 in the small locality of Djurdjura in Kabylie , Algeria . Amirouche was a leader in the Algerian War Of Independence , organizing the Maquis of the Wilaya Kabylie. Amirouche was a Kabyle , a Berber people whose traditional homeland is Kabylie or Kabylia in northeastern Algeria. He was killed by French troops on March 29 , 1959. This event was much publicized, as Amirouche was considered a great threat to the French in Algeria. {Link without Title} Amirouche was also called "King of the Mountain".
