Information About

College Gameday

Today, the only original cast member remaining is Lee Corso . Chris Fowler serves as host and Kirk Herbstreit , former Ohio State Quarterback , serves as Corso's counterpart and Foil . Craig James , currently with ABC Sports , was on the show in the mid 90's. Jill Arrington , Desmond Howard , and Rocket Ismail serve as frequent contributors. Steve Cyphers is usually featured as a reporter.

GOING LIVE

In 1993 , GameDay began broadcasting live from outside a stadium hosting a game most Saturdays. The selected stadium is ''usually'' hosting the biggest Rivalry Game of the day, regardless of whether the game airs on an ESPN network or not. The first show "on the road" took place at South Bend, Indiana for the match up between #2 Notre Dame and #1 FSU . The show takes on a festive atmosphere, as thousands of fans gather behind the broadcast set, in view of the show's cameras. Many fans bring flags or hand-painted signs as well, and the school's Cheerleader s and Mascot s also put on a show behind the ESPN broadcasters.

Typically, the show will end with Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit issuing their predictions for that day's key matchups, finishing with the game to be played at the stadium hosting GameDay, for which Corso signifies his prediction by donning the head piece of the Mascot of his predicted winner. The show's primary sponsor is Hardware Store Home Depot , who designed and built the show's portable broadcast studio. On rare occasions, when the outdoor broadcast has been "rained out" it will originate instead from the ESPN studios. One such instance happened on November 26 , 2005 , when the "Gameday" crew moved inside Reliant Stadium in Houston . That venue, which hosted the Bayou Classic that day, has a retractable roof (it was closed when that particular episode aired).

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

In 2005, ESPN implemented the GameDay format to College Basketball . The main sponsor for the program is Diet Dew , which is part of the Mountain Dew family. The main difference was that those shows were predetermined and ESPN always televises those games as part of '' Saturday Primetime ''. The format of these shows is three separate editions at the location of site at 11 AM ET, 8 PM ET, and midnight ET. Rece Davis (first four weeks) and Chris Fowler (last four weeks) serve as hosts, with Digger Phelps and Jay Bilas as analysts.

Starting in 2006 Rece Davis started serving as host throughout the whole season. Originally, Rick Majerus was supposed to be on the show, but since he accepted the USC basketball head coaching position (which he later declined), Phelps was given the spot. Andy Katz serves as the feature reporter for this show. Dick Vitale , who serves as analyst for '' Saturday Primetime '', makes special appearances on the show. Brad Nessler serves as play-by-play and Erin Andrews is the sideline reporter.
