Information About

Colin Cowherd

Colin Cowherd (born 1964 ) is the host of '' The Herd With Colin Cowherd '' on ESPN Radio .

Cowherd was born in Aberdeen, Washington and raised in nearby Grayland . He pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio and Television from Eastern Washington University before dropping out prior to graduation. Although he has claimed to have graduated from EWU, it has been confirmed on air by his staff that he never earned a degree. It is thought by many that Cowherd attended USC due to his obsession with the institution. Accordingly, listeners will note his strongly anti-intellectual rants and disdain for people he considers too sophisticated or overly educated (e-mailers with an .edu suffix, for example, are ridiculed) or who are pursuing careers that are not business-related.

Cowherd began his career as the play-by-play voice for the Pacific Coast League 's Las Vegas Stars . He eventually became sports director at KVBC -TV in Las Vegas, Nevada , where he was named Nevada's Sportscaster of the Year five times. He also served as sports anchor at WTVT -TV in Tampa, Florida .

He moved to Portland, Oregon , in 1996 , where he spent nearly eight years at KGW Northwest NewsChannel 8, working as a sports anchor and hosting the 30-minute Sports Sunday program. In 2001 , he began hosting a three-hour morning drive time program on all-sports radio KFXX 910-AM, a job he took on in addition to his duties at KGW.

In an October 2003 article about Cowherd in the Portland Tribune , he commented on his broadcasting style: "My sense of humor is not for everybody. I would bomb in a Rust Belt, X's-and-O's, beer belly market. I relate to a guy who loves sports but who has a life... I think radio maximizes my assets and TV minimizes my talents. TV, in some strange, unexplainable way, validates people. But the truth is radio (for a sportscaster) is much more difficult, takes far more skill and is much more challenging."

His wife gave birth to a boy on March 1st to go alongside his daughter who is a usual topic of converstion on his radio show.

A self-proclaimed college football junkie, The Herd has a daily segment called "The Daily Football Fix", a segment entirely devoted to talking about NCAA College Football or the NFL. Other regular segments include "Spanning The Globe", a closer look at the stories making sports headlines from the reporters covering that specific team's beat. He has a weekly segment called "Monday Morning Riff", which Cowherd created in early 2005, a section of air in which Cowherd airs his thoughts in a quick, concise, manner.

Colin Cowherd was Sports Illustrated's 2005 Radio Personality of the year.
