PLAYING CAREER

He started his career out at York City , before being snapped up by Nottingham Forest in 1961 . He was a regular at Forest for five years, playing nearly 160 games, before joining Bertie Mee 's Arsenal in September 1966 . However, he failed to shine at Arsenal and was sold after only fifteen months at the club, having played 32 matches (and scoring nine goals) for the Gunners.

He moved on to Sheffield United in December 1967 , and then Hereford United in 1971 . He became player-manager, taking over from John Charles , and helped the Bulls win a place in the Football League during his first season as manager. He was in charge at various different clubs in England and abroad over the next 32 years but did not achieve anything of much significance.
