Clean vocals are often used in more up-beat, "pop" songs, although bands such as Muse with Butterflies and Hurricanes or KoRn with tearjerker make use of them to contrast the more atonal vocalisations that they prefer. Popular Black Metal band Cradle Of Filth feature a classic mode of this screaming technique that spans a range of audial assaults from gutteral growls to unearthly shrieks of tortured soul, frontline man and lead singer Dani Filth . They employ the clean vocals technique by way of their female back up voice, Sarah Jezebel Deva , whose ethereal Soprano wailings soar over and pierce through the rich growl of guitars, pounding drum and bass riffs, and Dani's Banshee screams. Clean vocals are the classic means of singing, but can vary from the sotto voce of a Viennese choir boy to the throaty cry of a Prima Donna . |
