CLEAN technologies to reduce fuel consumption, and with it CO2 emissions, by as much as 20 percent are being tested, with particular reference to geared turbofan and, in the longer term, recuperated aeroengines. A novel combustor to reduce NOX by as much as 80% is also being investigated in the technology demonstrator programme.
The SNECMA led programme involves MTU , Volvo Aero and Avio . The technology demonstrator made its first run at the University of Stuttgart's altitude test facility in September 2004. The programme was concluded in March 2005.
