The archival records of Circle Pines reflect a legacy of involvement in various progressive causes throughout the years. During the "Red Hunts" of the McCarthy era Circle Pines was a refuge for those who found themselves facing charges that threatened to destroy their lives. Many CPC members were and are involved in activism outside of the co-op. A thriving membership community is complemented by visitors to CPC's many year-round programs . Its location in rural Western Michigan (in Delton, about 45 minutes northwest of Kalamazoo) has helped CPC to retain a natural atmosphere. One weekend in the fall is dedicated to apple cider, with apples from CPC's own orchard. In the spring, the maple trees are tapped and the sap is boiled down into syrup — an event culminating in a pancake breakfast that is not to be missed. A multitude of other programs take advantage of the cultural diversity of Circle Pines as well as its natural resources. SUMMER CAMP Although Circle Pines has year-round activities, their most notable event is their summer camp program . Camp is centered around its mission — to teach peace, justice, ecology, and cooperation. This provides a unique camping experience to youth ages seven to seventeen, teaching principles of cooperation through work projects as well as all-camp activities. EXTERNAL LINKS |
