One of them (called the "Old Chinatown") is located near Downtown Houston . It is situated nearby the George R. Brown Convention Center and contains several well-known Asia n restaurants, such as the downtown Kim Sơn . This is where the original Chinese immigrants have settled in Houston since the early 1900's. The land is still mostly owned by Chinese American s that have been in the states for many generations. Most of them are old Cantonese families. The new Chinatown that is growing larger is located west of the city of Bellaire in the Alief subregion along Bellaire Boulevard between Gessner and Dairy Ashford. The new Chinatown is called "Chinatown". It is mainly located on Bellaire Boulevard, and the main area is located in the region surrounded by Harwin, Dairy Ashford, Beechnut, and Gessner. This Chinatown is mostly Chinese , although a growing amount of Vietnam ese live in Chinatown as well. Chinese Mexicans also settled the area. There are several Asian Supermarket s such as Hong Kong Supermarket, Diho, and Welcome. Most of the Chinese here are Mandarin speakers. However, there is a large growing population of Cantonese and Taiwan ese. Over a third of the business in this area is Vietnamese. This area resembles Monterey Park , California , a city near Los Angeles . The Japan ese of Houston are not concentrated in any one area of the city, and instead tend to live among many different middle class neigborhoods. Many Japanese in Houston are only here for business reasons, as the city is a major financial/corporate center, and stay for only about a year or two before returning to Japan. Other Asian groups such as Middle East erners, Filipino Americans , Indonesian Americans , and Thai Americans don't exactly have an ethnic enclave of their own in the city, but they're often settled together in Chinatowns. Often you might find a Filipino shop right next to a Chinese Movie Theater. EXTERNAL LINKS
