VINEYARD

Chateau Pichon Baron's 73 hectares are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon (70%), Merlot (25%), and Cabernet Franc (5%). The vineyard is situated at the southern end of the commune of Pauillac near border with the St Julien appellation.


THE WINE

Grapes are harvested and sorted by hand, and then fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel vats of varying sizes. The wine is transferred into oak barrels for aging after finishing it's Malolactic Fermentation . The wine of Chateau Pichon Baron has been well received by critics since the late 1980's, garnering high praise from critics like Robert Parker and Jancis Robinson . Experts describe the style of the wine as masculine and tannic, a text-book example of Pauillac's Terroir .

Top vintages include the 1989, 1990, 2000, 2003 and 2005

The 2001 vintage was included the Ottawa Wine Tasting Of 2005
