The Charlotte branch is CSX branch line running from the CSX main line, branching off at Lexington Ave. The railroad runs north to Rochester Gas & Electric's Russell plant in Charlotte, a neighbourhood in northern Rochester, NY. Charlotte is where the Genesee river, empties into Lake Ontario. The charlotte branch was built in the 1880's by the Rome, Watertown & Ogdensburg, and passed through ownership of New York Central, Penn Central & Conrail before CSX. Besides RG&E the Charlotte branch also the Genesee Brewery and connects with the Kodak Park Railroad (KPRR). There is no Passenger service on the Charlotte branch, while the Terminal of the Ferry to Toronto is of very close proximity to the branch. |
