Dating from 1886 , it was originally part of the Glasgow City & District Railway , the first underground railway in Scotland. It serves Charing Cross , an area in the centre of Glasgow. Nearby points of interest include Sauchiehall Street and the Mitchell Library , as well as some of Glsagow's larger office compounds, making this station popular with commuters.
