"Champagne Supernova" is a song by the band Oasis . It was written by Noel Gallagher and sung by his brother Liam . The seven-minute anthem is the closing track on the record breaking album '' (What's The Story) Morning Glory? ''. It was also released as a single in Australia . Noel got the title when he misheard the name of the Pixies album Bossanova whilst watching a documentary about champagne. Another version is that a "champagne supernova" is the experience of smoking Marijuana whilst drinking Champagne . Gallagher later purchased a house in North London that he named "Supernova Heights." Noel came up with the phrase "Caught beneath the landslide" when he saw a sugar jar in his girlfriend's kitchen. You can see this peculiar jar in the CD booklet where the lyrics are printed. In the Music Video , Liam has a resemblance to John Lennon , wearing rose colored glasses and a beard. The song is a fan favourite, and has received widespread critical acclaim. This is despite the fact that Noel claimed in a 2005 interview that he has still not made up his mind as to what the song is actually about, though he thinks it might be about re-incarnation. Another explanation of the track is that it refers to an overdose of Heroin and Cocaine at the same time, with the "supernova" being a rather explosive feeling, and the "champagne" referring to Cocaine 's status as an upper class drug. It may also refer to the excess of fame and fortune. In a radio interview for BBC, Noel joked that rhythm guitarist Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs began crying during the recording of the song, because the song was so beautiful. Paul Weller , former frontman of The Jam and friend of Oasis, played guitar on the song. Angie Aparo covered Champagne Supvernova on the album " The One With The Sun " released 2003 . Ben Folds Five released a live cover of this song as a B-side of their single "Battle of Who Could Care Less." The performance, which took place in London, was introduced as a Country song and performed in country music style. The song was covered by American band Matt Pond PA specifically for use on the hit TV show '' The OC ''. The song is featured as part of the "soundtrack" in a scene in Bret Easton Ellis 's Novel Glamorama . External links |
