The Chamber of Deputies (Arabic: ''Majlis al-Nuwaab)'' is the Unicameral Legislative Branch of the government of Tunisia . The Chamber Of Deputies has 189 seats and its members are elected by popular vote to serve five-year terms. The last elections were held on October 24 , 2004 , with a victory for the ruling Democratic Constitutional Rally . The next election is to be held in 2009. The 2004 election yielded the following results: The previous election, held on October 24 , 1999 , had also resulted in a victory for the ruling Democratic Constitutional Rally with 91.6% of the vote. The Chamber of Deputies comprised 182 deputies at this time. Result details: Prior elections had resulted even more in favour of the government; the electoral code was changed to guarantee that the opposition won 34 seats. |
