FIGHT SONG The school's fight song is a faster version of The Victors , the fight song of the University Of Michigan . HISTORY AND ITS NAME Century is so named because the first graduating class received its diplomas at the turn of the century, in the year 2000 . Century High School was originally planned to be named ' Eleanor Roosevelt High School,' but this sparked a heated argument over its name. Eventually it was renamed 'Century High School' to avoid political connotations. The school was completed and opened in 1997 , allowing 9th and 10th Grade students to attend the school. In subsequent years 11th and 12th grade was added. Also in the succeeding years, a cafeteria was added and expanded. CURRICULAR AND EXTRA CURRICULAR The school Mascot is a Panther , so the sports teams, students, and staff are known as the Century Panthers. It has teams in Speech , classic Debate , Mock Trial , Football , Tennis , swimming, cross country, soccer, softball, baseball, basketball, golf, hockey, Volleyball , Track And Field , Science Olympiad , math league, chess club, model united nations, and many other clubs and orginzations. The Panther Playhouse puts on a drama in the fall and a musical in late winter. The Century marching band, known also as the Century Marching Panthers, play at football games and march in the homecoming parade. Also the Pep Band plays at hockey and basketball games in the winter where they promote school spirit and keep the fans entertained during breaks with their upbeat, funky music. SPORTS TEAM SUCCESS In 2003 , the Baseball varsity team won the Section championship and upset Cretin-Durham Hall , who was undefeated in over a dozen state championship appearances previously. Also in 2003 , the Golf team won the state championship. In 2004 the football team won the Big Nine Conference, but lost in the section championship to Rival Rochester John Marshall. In 2005 Century's Boy's and Girl's soccer team went to state. Century High School is the home of the National Volleyball Center . In 2005 , Century's Science Olympiad team won second place at the Minnesota State Science Olympiad meet. EXTERNAL LINKS |
