FACILITIES FACULTY SPORTS Although the Century High School Jaguars currently compete in the very competetive 4A Metro League, they will soon move to the 5A Northwest Conference due to the new six division classification effective 2006-07. While being outnumbered in student population, some of Century High School Athletics have been able to surpass such obstacles and make it to success. Century's Jagz Dance Team, which is, for a correction, considered an OSAA Athletic program and has made it to the Top 4 in state for the past 4 years, when, for another correction, there have been much more than 5 teams competing. In addition, Century has been home to some of the league's strongest athletes -- David Cernin (Men's Basketball, Baseball), Jerohmee Murray (Cross Country, Track and Field), Brysen French (Wrestling 189, Track and Field) and Sean Tripi (Soccer, Football), to name a few. ARTS The Century High School Marching Band performed their show "Tears of the Gods" a number of times during the fall season. Diamonds were called tears of the gods by the Anchient Greeks. The show features lots of shiny, diamond-like things. The band can't wait until next year's show, which has a James Bond theme. The Century High School Drumline has gone to the WGI World Championships twice in the past years, placing 5th and 17th. Previous shows have been entitled "Big Bang: Beginning of Time" and "In a Cool Mood". The show for the 2005-2006 school year is entitled "Percussion 101", and it depicts a typical day in a percussion class. The music was written by David Reeves. The musical selections are, Period 1: Groove, Period 2: color and texture, and Period 3:solos and Jammin'. The Drum Captains are Sami Hart, Johanna Snell, Roan Tabada, Ryan Goodyear, and Kristi Green. The show features Austin Randle as the geeky teacher. In the third movement, fed up with his unruly class, Professor Randle throws of his dorky glasses and wails on his gutair solo. On March 18, 2006, the drumline took 1st place at the Westview High School Classic. On April 1, 2006, the drumline took first place at the NW Winter Championships at Hockinson High School with a score of 89.2, the highest score any Century drumline has ever scored. Varsity Winterguard's 2005-2006 show is entitled "Memories" and features the song "Photographs" by Nickleback. It is a tribute to the nine seniors in the group. Varsity took 2ed place at Westveiw in the open division. At Championships at Hockinson, the gaurd took 3ed place with a score of 90.9, the highest score any Century group has ever scored. Century was only a tenth of a point behind the second place school, Skyveiw High School. In the Meanwhile, Junior Varsity (JV) Winterguard's show is entitled "Touched by the Sun" and features the music of Carly Simon. They won 2ed place in their division at Westveiw. On March 17th through March 28th, the band and guard went on the 2006 Hawaii tour. The Symphonic Band went to a clinic at the University of Hawaii. The group went on the the Polynesian Cultural Center at which the drumline performed. The marching band performed its show at the USS Missouri after going to the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor. The group marched in the Prince Kuhio Day Parade. And the 1:00 and 2:00 jazz bands played at the Hard Rock Cafè. Battling stomach flu, dehydration, and sunburn, the group represented Century High in the best way from the moment they stepped off the plane in Honolulu to when the plane's wheels touched down in Oregon once more.
