Castle Arenberg, in Heverlee close to Leuven , Belgium , is a 16th century castle built by Antoon Van Croy on the site of a 12th century castle that he destroyed all but one tower of. Construction of the modern castle was completed in 1515. The castle is surrounded by a beautiful park. The castle is now property of the University Of Leuven and is open to the public. The first gas filled balloon ascension in history to carry a human started from the front lawn of the castle on On November 21 , 1783 by Professor Jan-Pieter Minckeler. |
