Castalla is a city located in the Comarca of L'Alcoià , in the province of Alicante , Spain . It has an area of 114.6 km2 and, according to the 2002 census, a total population of 7,940 inhabitants and a Population Density of 69.28 inhab/km2. Castalla is located in a mountainous area, 35 km from Alicante city. The economy of Castalla is based on Farming ( Almond s, Olive s and Grape s) and the industries of Toy s, Construction materials, Furniture and Textile . The most important monuments in Castalla are the walled Castle from the 11th century, which is placed at the top of a hill; the '' Hermitage of the Blood'' (from the 13th century); the Catholic Church of ''la Asunción'' (from the 16th century) and the building of the town hall (from the 17th century).
