Friday night is the only evening that is currently programmed for children on the network from 10pm-6am, with Adult Swim airing on Saturday-Thursday nights. HISTORY '' Cartoon Cartoon Fridays'' was the former name of the program block, based on the original name for the channel's original animated series, Cartoon Cartoon. This name was used from 1999 to 2003 . When Cartoon Cartoon Fridays first aired, the intro was unique for its time; it involved lines and volume bars showing all the Cartoon Cartoons. Its commercials featured live action people trying to be Cartoon Cartoons. Its tagline ( 1999 - 2000 ) was ''"Are you cartoon?"'' and the ''"Coming Up Next"'', ''"We'll Be Right Back"'', and "We're Back" bumpers were played by NFL stars who hung up cardboard pieces of Cartoon Cartoon characters. In 2000 , the bridging format featured newly-animated segments starring the Cartoon Cartoon characters. These segments were repeated until late Summer of 2003 . The following Cartoon Cartoon characters were hosting the show (in alphabetical order):
After the Summer of 2003, the bridging segments were done in Live Action with a new set and hosts Tommy Snider and Nzinga Blake , as well as new characters such as Big Guy Shimmy, Milkman Fred, and Diner Lady, Queer Lady, and Edutaining (and educational) segments. In January 2005 , Tara Sands took over Nzinga Blake's hosting duties to make the show more kid-oriented. This also involved a change in Set , making it wackier and replacing most of the older characters with newer characters. Interesting to note is that the introduction sequence for ''Fridays'' features characters from just about every show that has ever been on Cartoon Network, including shows that have disappeared entirely from the network (examples being '' Looney Tunes '', '' The Jetsons '', and '' Hong Kong Phooey ''). ''Fridays'', the current name for ''Cartoon Cartoon Fridays'', should not be confused with ABC's similarly-named sketch comedy show from the early-1980s, '' Fridays ''. EXTERNAL LINKS |
