The term is defined as an infant sandwiched between two slices of bread. This is meant to symbolize how those who smoke marijuana are characteristically forgetful and hungry. The sandwich is therefore created by one that is too intoxicated by the effects of marijuana to realize a human baby is not food and is too hungry to stop eating. The term seems to have originated on a television episode of The Simpsons , 'The Secret War of Lisa Simpson ', in a scene in which Chief Wiggum is acting as a guide in the Museum of Crime. He shows the children touring the museum a depiction of a "hippie pot party" in which a representation of a female intoxicated on marijuana is about to devour a sandwich with a human baby in the middle of it. His comment is "That's right, she's got the munchies for a California Cheeseburger." |
