''Building 12'' is a Webcomic by Chris Hazelton that began October 2002.

The title ''"Building 12"'' refers to a Dorm at the fictional Atica College, where all the Dysfunctional students are housed. They range from the unfortunate to the Psychotic .

PLOT

The story starts off at the arrival of Joe to the Atica College. He's sent to Building 12, where he meets Jack. Jacks tells Joe everything he'll need to know about the college and the inhabitants of Building 12. Joe quickly makes friends with everyone, with the exception of maybe Gurney, who hasn't pried his eyes from TV since Joe arrived. He specifically befriends Alex Longfellow, an unnaturally feminine boy who's seem to be the only other "normal" person in Building 12. By pure chance, Joe accidentally walks in on Alex taking a shower and finds out "he" is in fact a "she". Both are infatuated with eachother, but stay apart so Alex's secret can be protected.

During Issue 2 and beyond, the school grounds gets attack by a bizzare assortment of enemies. They are: an army of an ex-student bent on taking over the world, alien conquerors from outer space, and the minions of Hell . The group of Building 12 oppose all 3 invaders and eventually all 4 groups go back from where they came. However, a second confrontation could soon happen.

CHARACTERS

Protagonists

  • Joe - Joe can be considered as the main character of the comic, though he is not the complete focal point of the comic. Joe is the newest resident of Building 12, and seemingly the only person who really cares about school. He works and studies hard every day, yet all the others manage to get near perfect grades without trying nearly as hard. Though he's still trying to adjust to the oddities of Building 12, he seems to like it there.

  • Jack - The first person who Joe encounters in the comic when trying to sort out which room he should be in. Jack plays the brief role of "big brother" to Joe by showing him around and introducing him to everyone. As the other members of Building 12 like to say, Jack "has had more majors than God" and can be considered one of the most intelligent of the group. He is also quite the ladies man, even tinting his windows so no one can get a peek while he's with a woman.

  • Craze - Keeping to his name, Craze can be considered absolutely crazy. He owns a large collection of guns and is prone to violence. However, he is usually very calm unless something begins to bug him, like his ex-girlfriend Sarah. He is an incredible fighter, utilizing his guns effectively when needed. There is evidence he still may have a soft spot for Sarah, despite managing to attract Tia the demon with murderous intent.

  • Sarah - Craze's ex-girlfriend, Sarah is a strong woman and is more then capable of standing up to Craze's gun toting. They seemed like the perfect couple until breaking up in high school, and it seems a stroke of bad luck has brought them together again at the same college. Whenever possible, Sarah likes to mess with Craze, knowing full well he won't do anything to her. There is evidence that she may still have feeling for him.

  • Iron - Iron has possibly seen the least amount of screen time, getting knocked out by Yuki in his first introduction. He converted the study lounge of Building 12 into a game room for everyone to use, and can be often found there. He is a favorite test subject for the mad scientist-like Brian.

  • Yuki - A girl of Japanese descent, Yuki has the shortest temper out of the entire group. She once knocked out Joe because she thought he had asked her if she was a woman, despite obviously asking about Alex. Yuki and Sarah are best friends and have made the bottom floor of the west wing into the "girls only" area. Yuki has Herculean strength and can easily punch through metal, making anyone easily think twice about walking into that particular area.

  • Gurnery - Jeff, or rather Gurney, is easily the oddest member of the Building 12. He rarely, if ever, speaks with the rest of the group. He instead, spends every waking hour of his life watching TV. Because of this, Gurney has developed a very unhealthy look.

  • Alex - Joe's love interest, Alex only managed to get into Atica College because they believed she was a boy. Therefore, in order to stay in school, she masquerades as a boy. She befriends the rest of the Building 12 residents easily, and they keep her secret amongst themselves. This means Joe was kept out in the dark at the very beginning, only finding out when walking in on her in the shower.

  • Brian - Brian is perhaps the most technologically intelligent of the group, and also perhaps the craziest. He has many insane projects that usually get the test subjects nearly killed or severely injured. Most of his creations defy all logic. For example, he once created a rocket that seemed to be made of junk parts yet flew into space effortlessly. Because of this, the inhabitants of Building 12 rarely test his creations. Only Iron would volunteer for it, and occasionally Joe.

  • Shane - Considered the master bullshitter (MBS) of the college, Joe looks to Shane when trying to ease his workload for school. Shane is so good at his lying, he can convince almost anyone that it's the truth. However, because of this, the students of Building 12 rarely ever believe a word he says when he actually is telling the truth..

Antagonists

  • Klaus Der Phobia - Klaus is a graduate of Atica who wants revenge on the college and to, of course, take over the world. He is incredibly rich and has managed to create his own private army. However, he is a complete idiot and also seems to have a phobia of people getting close to him.

  • Stein - Klaus's second in command, who could be as intelligent as Klaus himself.

  • Victor - A member of Klaus's army, Victor is one of the rarities in this army in that he is an excellent soldier. He has a grudge against Jack from an incident that occurred in elementary school, and is frustrated that Jack has no clue who he is.

  • Peoni - A member of Klaus's army who is a master of disguise. She can easily play a defenseless and air-headed girl, despite really being quite serious and an incredible fighter. She manages to trick Jack and company into a trap this way, but subsequently lets them escape. She may have fallen for Jack after he kisses her before she can react.

  • Tia - Tia is a demon created to destroy Sarah and Craze, but ends up falling in love with Craze and wants, as she puts it, "to make babies" with him. However, she is still quite hell-bent on destroying Sarah, only not doing so because of Craze's wishes. Her ability to fall in love may be from the rabbit paw used to create her, instead of a claw of a long extinct animal
