Buena Vista is the site of a small Miwok Indian Reservation called Buena Vista Rancheria, which has been involved in a legal dispute with regards to the establishment of an Indian Gaming Casino on its grounds. Amador County contended that the Rancheria was never a federally recognized reservation and thus could not qualify for a casino location.
