The community of Bridgeport extends partly into Onondaga County, New York and is east of Oneida Park, a hamlet in the Town Of Cicero in Onondaga County.


GEOGRAPHY

Chittenango Creek, west of Bridgeport is the boundary between the Madison and Onondaga counties.

Bridgeport is located at 43°9'16" North, 75°58'30" West (43.154472, -75.974888).

According to the United States Census Bureau , the hamlet has a total area of 4.7 Km&2 (1.8 Mi&2 ). None of the area is covered with water.


DEMOGRAPHICS

As of the Census of 2000, there were 1,665 people, 639 households, and 431 families residing in the hamlet. The Population Density was 353.2/km&2 (912.4/mi&2). There were 685 housing units at an average density of 145.3/km&2 (375.4/mi&2). The racial makeup of the area was 96.10% White , 1.20% African American , 0.66% Native American , 0.42% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.00% from Other Races , and 1.62% from two or more races. 0.36% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 639 households out of which 32.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.5% were Married Couples living together, 11.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.4% were non-families. 26.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.13.

In the community the population was spread out with 25.8% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 30.0% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 98.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.1 males.

The median income for a household in the community was $31,358, and the median income for a family was $42,337. Males had a median income of $26,970 versus $26,316 for females. The Per Capita Income for the CDP was $14,761. 12.2% of the population and 10.5% of families were below the Poverty Line . 19.9% of those under the age of 18 and 7.5% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
