Bridge digital cameras are a kind of Digital Camera s occupied a niche which draws a ''bridge'' between Digital Single-lens Reflex Cameras and compact digital cameras. Bridge cameras have the size of smaller SLR cameras, have large CCD sensors (although not quite the size of Digital SLRs), often full manual controls, but use only a single built-in lens, as opposed to SLR cameras which can utilize many interchangeable lenses. As a consequence of their smaller captor, very large zoom ranges are available, and long focal lengths (equivalent to 450mm for a 24x36mm camera) can be obtained in a compact space. Since there is no mirror box allowing to see through the objective, the viewfinder is a small digital screen comparable to those of camescopes. Their poor definition make it difficult to focus manually if the Autofocus is disengaged. Examples of such cameras are the Fujifilm FinePix S9000 , the Nikon Coolpix 8800 , the Samsung Pro815 , the Sony DSC-R1 , the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20 and the Panasonic DMC-FZ30 . |
