Brewster is the location of the corporate headquarters and shops of the Wheeling And Lake Erie Railway , both the historic railroad company ( Reporting Mark s WLE) (1880-1949) and of the current regional railroad (reporting marks WE) (1990-present). The WLE began producing locomotives at its Brewster shops in 1910 , and boasted one of the finest Steam Locomotive producing facilities in the country. Over the years, the WLE built and rolled boilers and erected fifty of their own steam engines, a feat never tried by many larger and more famous railroads. The Wheeling and Lake Erie Brewster Shops continue to perform contract repairs, upgrades and fabrication of locomotives and Freight Car s to this day. LOCAL MUSIC The small town of Brewster Rock City has many local bands including Melodic Death Metallers Lich, Rock/ Punk band Angelface, and Green Pool. Green Pool has a song specifically about the small town of Brewster, Ohio, Called "Brewster Rock City", which is the nickname that this town has adopted for the many shows at the local venue "The Monroe Hall". Brewster is also the home to the very successful backyard wrestling federation the Trampoline Wrestling Association. The T.W.A. was based in north Brewster and ran shows from 1996 to 2003. During this time they developed a cult following in the community. The T.W.A. was featured on the Best of Backyard Wrestling DVD series, the T.W.A.’s Masked Mike Jackson was featured on The Best of Backyard Wrestling Video game, they also appeared on many television shows including Oprah, Fox 8 in Cleveland, Extra, Jenny Jones and many other TV outlets. To this day at Monroe Hall people will still chant TWA in celebration during concerts held by local bands Green Pool and Angelface. GEOGRAPHY Brewster is located at 40°42'43" North, 81°35'51" West (40.712008, -81.597452). According to the United States Census Bureau , the village has a total area of 5.3 Km&2 (2.0 Mi&2 ). 5.3 km&2 (2.0 mi&2) of it is land and 0.49% is water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 2,324 people, 855 households, and 630 families residing in the village. The Population Density was 442.0/km&2 (1,146.5/mi&2). There were 904 housing units at an average density of 171.9/km&2 (446.0/mi&2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.97% White , 0.04% African American , 0.17% Native American , 0.17% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.09% from Other Races , and 0.56% from two or more races. 0.52% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 855 households out of which 35.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.8% were Married Couples living together, 11.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.3% were non-families. 22.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.07. In the village the population was spread out with 25.9% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 17.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 94.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.6 males. The median income for a household in the village was $37,853, and the median income for a family was $42,200. Males had a median income of $34,798 versus $20,769 for females. The Per Capita Income for the village was $17,614. 5.9% of the population and 6.0% of families were below the Poverty Line . 2.6% of those under the age of 18 and 8.0% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
