Brandon Backe




Backe was recognized on a national level after pitching the last game of the Astros' 2004 regular season against the Colorado Rockies in place of an ill Roger Clemens . The Houston win capped an amazing 36-10 stretch that propelled the team into the playoffs as the National League Wild Card team.


HIGH SCHOOL CAREER

At Galveston's Ball High School, Backe was a two-time Team MVP award winner, and earned All-District honors in baseball. He was also starting Quarterback his junior year and led Ball High School to the state Football semifinals before losing to Austin's Westlake High School and quarterback Drew Brees .


CAREER WITH ASTROS

With the Astros, Backe doesn't have stellar numbers; but many people were impressed with his performances in the 2004 NLCS and the 2005 World Series .

Currently in the 2006-2007 season, Brandon Backe is the #3 starter, replacing Roger Clemens who is still deciding whether or not to play for the Astros again.
