Kennedy'' , HNLMS ''Van Amstel'' and ITS ''Luigi Durand de la Penne'' (18th of April 2002).]] A Blue water navy is a naval force which has deep ocean Power Projection capabilities; such a navy can operate effectively beyond their national shores. A Brown-water Navy is commonly accepted as one that is based around a river/riverine system and is not able to deploy at an autonomous level in the major oceans. A Green Water Navy is commonly accepted as one that is based around a coastal or littorals capability. A clear way of distinguishing this power is through their ability to deploy a credible force overseas, aka a Task Force , or any other deployment. Canada's Navy, for example, may not have a sizeable fleet, but its ability and willingness to deploy and operate with other navies on long distance and lengthy exercises give it the distinction as a blue water navy. Relatively few Navies of the world can be considered to be Blue Water navies:
