The Blue-bellied Parrot, ''Triclaria malachitacea'' is an Endemic Parrot of the coastal Forest of southeastern Brazil , an area where much of the original forest cover has been removed in favour of cultivated crops like Tobacco and Banana s. Now mostly restricted to remnant forest strips on slopes and ridges, which cover far less than 10% of the original range. Some 5,000-10,000 birds are thought to survive, a number dwindling due to further habitat changes. The cage-bird trade is considered to be no threat, as only some are captured for the local market, but nevertheless fair numbers reached the Netherlands in the 1970-1980s.
