First encountered in the ruins of a massive dead city by Roland and his band, Blaine promises a method of escape to the outside. Unfortunately, Blaine has homicidal tendencies not unakin to the ones of the ''. Blaine requires a solved riddle in order for them to board him (although an 'it', he thinks of himself as a male) but then pulls a surprise: they will have to give him a riddle he cannot solve in order for him to let them get off (as opposed to just crashing into the final terminal without slowing at all). Blaine has a countermind called Little Blaine, who represents the weaker partner in Blain's schizophrenic processor mind. He is, unfortunately, of no help. Finally, Eddie comes up with a cavalcade of unsolvable (and exceedingly stupid) riddles that drive Blaine (more) insane and cause his computer to crash. When he finally comes to a stop, it is in Kansas... in a wiped-out world that is a version of '' The Stand ''. |
