The diocese covers an area of 4,075 km² of the County of West Yorkshire , parts of North Yorkshire , Cumbria , Greater Manchester , Humberside and Lancashire . The See is in the City Of Leeds where the seat is located at the Cathedral Church Of Saint Anne .

The Vicariate Apostolic of the Yorkshire District was elevated to diocese status as the Diocese Of Beverley on 29 September 1850 , becoming the Diocese Of Leeds on 20 December 1878 . The current bishop is The Right Reverend Arthur Roche , the 9th Bishop of Leeds.
