The Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield headed for a period in the Middle Ages and Tudor times the Catholic diocese of Coventry and Lichfield in the Province Of Canterbury , in England .

The diocese of Mercia was founded 656 by Diuma . Subsequently becoming the Diocese of Lichfield, it became linked variously with the dioceses of Coventry and Chester.

With the deprivation and death of Bishop Ralph Baynes the line of Catholic Bishops came to an end. The Church Of England Bishops of Lichfield and Coventry that followed were appointed by the crown.
