Berlin is a Borough located in Camden County , New Jersey . As of the United States 2000 Census , the borough had a total population of 6,149. GEOGRAPHY Berlin is located at 39°47'35" North, 74°56'7" West (39.793015, -74.935180). According to the United States Census Bureau , the borough has a total area of 9.3 Km&2 (3.6 Mi&2 ). 9.3 km&2 (3.6 mi&2) of it is land and none of it is covered by water. Berlin Borough borders Berlin Township , Lindenwold , Pine Hill , Waterford , and Winslow . DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 6,149 people, 2,205 households, and 1,660 families residing in the borough. The Population Density was 663.2/km&2 (1,718.6/mi&2). There were 2,275 housing units at an average density of 245.4/km&2 (635.8/mi&2). The racial makeup of the borough was 94.06% White , 2.18% African American , 0.21% Native American , 1.69% Asian , 0.07% Pacific Islander , 0.49% from Other Races , and 1.30% from two or more races. 2.11% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 2,205 households out of which 33.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.3% were Married Couples living together, 11.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.7% were non-families. 19.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.19. In the borough the population was spread out with 24.6% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 24.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 98.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.0 males. The median income for a household in the borough was $60,286, and the median income for a family was $68,704. Males had a median income of $44,211 versus $31,980 for females. The Per Capita Income for the borough was $24,675. 3.5% of the population and 1.9% of families were below the Poverty Line . 2.7% of those under the age of 18 and 5.7% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line. GOVERNMENT Local government Berlin operates under the Borough from of New Jersey government. The mayor is directly elected by the voters to a four-year term of office. There are six members of the Borough Council, each elected to three-year terms on a staggered basis, with two seats coming up The Mayor of Berlin Borough is Joseph C. Keskes. Federal, state and county representation Brooklawn is in the First Congressional District and is part of New Jersey's 6th Legislative District. EDUCATION Students in Kindergarten through eighth grade attend the Berlin Community School , which serves a total of 772 students. For grades 9 - 12, students attend the Eastern Camden County Regional High School District , a limited-purpose, public regional School District consisting of Eastern High School and Eastern Intermediate High School . The schools serve a combined population of approximately 37,000 in the communities of Berlin Borough, Gibbsboro and Voorhees Township . The District operates two high schools, Eastern High School with over 1,000 students for grades 11 and 12 and Eastern Intermediate High School with nearly 1,150 students for grades 9 and 10. Both schools are located on the same site, but operate independently. Eastern presently enrolls about 2,131 students at the two high schools. EXTERNAL LINKS
