Information About

Beer Soup

Before the introduction of Potatoes and more modern hot beverages ( Coffee , Tea and Chocolate ) to Europe in the 16th Century , beer was an important dietary food. The brewing of beer was considered an everyday household task, akin to baking and laundry. The introduction of New World foods, and the opening of trade routes with the East, and popularization of Distilled Spirits led to the rapid elimination of beer as a food. Beer soup had become virtually unknown as a breakfast meal by the 18th Century .
