Beauty: A Retelling Of The Story Of Beauty And The Beast

PLOT OVERVIEW

Honour is the youngest daughter of a rich merchant and always believed that she was the ugliest, most expendable of her two sisters, Hope and Grace. Not understanding the appeal of her name, she declares that she'd rather have a name like Beauty and her nickname sticks. When her father's shipping company goes bankrupt and Grace's fiance is assumed dead, the small family leaps at the chance of starting a new life in the country. While life is hard for the pampered family, the girls do not complain. After a time, they are welcomed into the Blue Hill community, and Beauty finds a place for herself and her massive horse, Greatheart. When her family receives news that one of her father's ships assumed lost at sea has returned, her father must go to the city and take care of that business. On the way home he finds himself desperately lost in a snowstorm and then in the castle of a seemingly absent sorcerer. When he has waited out the storm he takes a single red rose for Beauty, who so desperately loves them, and an angry Beast appears with a choice. Her father must either return to the castle in a month's time to die or let one of his daughters come in his stead to live peacefully, unharmed. Beauty's family must now make a decision that will change their lives forever.
