Information About

Bbc Look North (north East And Cumbria)

First broadcast in 1964, Look North was presented for much of existence by the legendary North East anchorman, Mike Neville MBE , noted for his booming gravelly voice, distinctive glasses and longevity (thirty two years at the BBC). Its original title was ''Home At Six'', hosted by Frank Bough (who moved to BBC Sport in 1964), which began in 1963. The TV region started in 1962. In 1996, Mike was poached by Tyne Tees Television to present their re-launched news coverage. Since Mike Defected the programme has lost its lead in the ratings to ITV1's North East Tonight . It was the second English region to switch to the BBC generic look on 18th October 1999 . From 16th September 2002 , a new corporate logo was used for the programme (also used by all BBC regional news). A further revamp was made on 16th May 2005 .
