''Batman: Son of the Demon'' was a Graphic Novel by Jerry Bingham and Mike W. Barr published in 1987 by DC Comics . It was somewhat considered to be a retroactive Elseworlds story due to several problems, most notably in character, until it was announced that Grant Morrison would be following up the events of the story in 2006 in '' Batman ''. The story centers on the eco-terrorist Ra's Al Ghul , and his daughter Talia aiding Batman in his quest to solve the murder of one of Gotham City 's most prominent scientists. Ra's agrees to help Batman if Batman agrees to wed his daughter. Batman agrees, even though he has never been so desperate to solve a crime (hence many fans' disapproval of the story). Another even more serious contradiction to the character was the fact that later in the story Batman disarms an assailant and tosses the weapon to Ra's to use on the rest of their foes. Given Batman's value of human life, this seems highly illogical. After the climactic battle with the terrorist behind the plot, Qayin , Batman is revealed to have fathered a son by Talia during the course of the story. However, Talia conceals this fact (from the 'world's greatest detective' no less) and abandons the child at an unknown orphanage. Batman group editor Denny O'Neil stated the story was not Canonical in response to queries as to the fate of the child. EXTERNAL LINKS |
