The first creation came in 1887 when the industrialist Sir William George Armstrong was made '''Baron Armstrong''', of Craigside in the County of Northumberland. This title became extinct on his death in 1900 . However, the title was revived three years later for his great-nephew '''William Henry Armstrong Fitzpatrick Watson-Armstrong''', who was created '''Baron Armstrong''', of Bamburgh and of Craigside in the County of Northumberland .
