As a Sexual Preference , autosexuality refers to people who choose to have sex with themselves (that is, they prefer to Masturbate rather than having interpersonal Sex ). The adjective is "autosexual", as in "autosexual behavior". It is rather rare for someone to be sexually attracted ''only'' to themselves when presented with a diverse range of possible mates. It can be considered to be a Paraphilia or as an exclusive preference to be a form of Homosexuality , since all people are the same gender as themselves (the Reflexive Property ). However, people sometimes are born with sexes and genders that don't match, as in Transsexuality . Therefore, it would be possible to be attracted to one's ''body'' autosexually, but not to one's inner self. Autosexuality may then be a distinct Sexual Orientation or in fact may be none of the above. AUTOSEXUALS In Greek Mythology Narcissus is considered an autosexual however the truth of this is less than clear cut as Pausanias story points to him being Incestuous . In Ovid's Metamorphoses poem he describes the Greek tale of Narcissus and the Nymph Echo. Echo is in love with Narcissus but all he can see is his own 'beautiful' reflection in the water. Echo's longing eventually means that all is left of her is a sad lonely cry. AUTOEROTICISM Autoeroticism is the practice of fulfilling one's own sexual needs without a partner. The most common form of autoeroticism is Masturbation . Autofellatio , the act of sucking one's own penis, is less common, while Autocunnilingus , oral stimulation of the female genitals, is even less common. Autosexual behavior is considered to be a normal part of human development, when children discover that they are able to sexually stimulate themselves. It has been asserted by some that even fetuses engage in this activity, though the evidence is slight. Many people also use Dildo s, Vibrator s, Anal Beads , Sybian Machine s, water running from a faucet or spigot, Fleshlight s, vegetables and other Sex Toy s alone. Some people of particular religious or personal reasons believe autoeroticism to be a bad thing. Most autoerotic practices are relatively or entirely safe, but a few are considered not to be. One example of what some people believe is dangerous practice is Autoerotic Asphyxiation . This lack of breathing can easily result in death, particularly when done alone, as there is no one to assist in case of an emergency. A parallel of this is the "pass out" or "choking" game in adolescents. Self-bondage is the practice of Sexual Bondage by oneself. The potential for malfunction and harm exists for bondage even with a partner. Due to the isolation and lack of assistance in the event of a problem, self-bondage carries a much higher risk of injury or death. |
