The subject of this film is Sue Rubin , a woman with Autism who was considered Mentally Retarded as a child. At the age of 13, she learned to express herself through a Computer Keyboard (or for short, Facilitated Communication ), revealing that she was in fact highly intelligent. She went on to study History , specializing in Latin American History at Whittier College and write speeches about her life with autism. Director Wurzburg has called Rubin "the Helen Keller of her generation". {Link without Title} Rubin's dialogue is narrated by actress Julianna Margulies . CRITICISM Critics of ''Autism of a World'' state that the writing of the script was not done by Sue Rubin herself. They point out that in several instances throughout the movie, Sue was only seen punching in several letters per camera shot, therefore giving a hunch that Sue Rubin may not have the capability to type paragraphs in a normal amount of time. The critics of this movie believe that Sue Rubin may not have been responsible for her writing, but it may possibly be a coalition of her aides and parents thinking for her. EXTERNAL LINKS |
