Austrian Legislative Election, 1949

The elections to the Austria n National Council of 1949 were the first elections after World War II when former Nazis were allowed to vote. A newly created party, the Federation Of Independents (VdU) (a predecessor of the Freedom Party Of Austria ) specifically targeted this group of voters and immediately took away a large number of votes from the ÖVP and SPÖ. The ÖVP , SPÖ and KPÖ continued their coalition, which the KPÖ left in 1950 .
