Information About

Atlantic Bridge

Atlantic Bridge refers to a route from Gander , Newfoundland , refueling in Iceland , then continuing on to Scotland .

During the Second World War new bombers flew this route. In the future, due to fuel costs, this route is likely to blossom again, especially if Iceland begins to manufacture a Kerosene substitute using electricity from Geothermal energy. This route is, however, longer overall and involves an extra landing and takeoff which is costly in fuel terms. A direct route can be efficient as it allows cruising at high altitude. A sea route stopping to refuel at these points may also prove viable. A stop over on Greenland may also be possible although no facility exists at the moment.
