In the classification of African Languages , Atlantic-Congo is an early branch of the Niger-Congo phylum. Atlantic-Congo comprises the Atlantic Languages and all other Niger-Congo branches except Mande and Kordofanian , which are believed to have split off even earlier than Atlantic. The biggest subordinate branch (in terms of number of languages) is Volta-Congo ; the other branches of Atlantic-Congo are Dogon and Ijoid . Mukarovsky's West-Nigritic roughly corresponds to Atlantic-Congo.
