Ashford is a Census-designated Place located in Pierce County, Washington , United States . As of the 2000 Census , the CDP had a total population of 267. Laying just a few miles from the entrance to Mount Rainier National Park , shops and accommodations for visitors to the park can be found here. The surrounding mountains and narrow Nisqually River Valley are heavily forested. GEOGRAPHY Ashford is located at 46°45'21" North, 122°1'9" West (46.755884, -122.019203). According to the United States Census Bureau , the CDP has a total area of 5.4 Km&2 (2.1 Mi&2 ). 5.4 km&2 (2.1 mi&2) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 267 people, 122 households, and 56 families residing in the CDP. The Population Density was 49.6/km&2 (128.3/mi&2). There were 193 housing units at an average density of 35.8/km&2 (92.7/mi&2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 93.63% White , 0.37% African American , 0.75% Native American , 0.75% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 1.87% from Other Races , and 2.62% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 122 households out of which 27.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.7% were Married Couples living together, 7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 53.3% were non-families. 38.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.19 and the average family size was 3.09. In the CDP the population was spread out with 23.2% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 31.1% from 25 to 44, 28.1% from 45 to 64, and 11.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 124.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 107.1 males. The median income for a household in the CDP was $27,917, and the median income for a family was $25,500. Males had a median income of $46,406 versus $26,250 for females.
