The band was founded sometime in early 2002 as members of a previous band, Sundaze, were looking for a fresh start. These members were Dan Nigro (vocals, guitar, piano), Sean Fitzgerald (guitar, drums), and Cliff Sarcona (drums). During the recording of their first EP, titled ''Blood and Aphorisms'', Brian Fortune (guitar, piano) was added to the band. "Blood and Aphorisms" met with small local success as the band began to tour around and make a name for itself in the thriving indie rock community. At this time, ATAL added Brian Caesar (bass) to the lineup. The band was seen as a unique entity inside of the indie scene, not necessarily fitting in creatively with the other emo bands, but never failing to win over the emo fans. This uniqueness was enough for ATAL to score a record deal with New York City 's Triple Crown Records . The band relocated to the Midwest for the composition and recording of the first full-length album, which would eventually be called '' Lafcadio .'' The album was released in the Spring of 2004 and met with mixed reviews. In the ensuing months, ATAL went through its share of problems as Brian Fortune announced he was leaving the band, only to be followed by Brian Caesar as the touring schedule progressed. Caesar was replaced by good friend and multi-instrumentalist Julio Tavarez . Currently, ATAL is back in the studio, recording their second full-length album on Long Island. It is expected to be released on Eastwest Records label Triple Crown Records . EXTERNAL LINK |
