An artificial eye is a camera attached to the Optic Nerve as a replacement for a real Eye . It does not function as well as the real eye, and does not have crystal-clear vision (as it is only a camera). Currently a camera of 100x100 pixels has been implemented successfully. This eye is actually a very powerful tool, though it seems that it is not very effective, it is a huge step to even give sight to the blind. The ability to give sight to a blind person via an artificial eye depends on the circumstances surrounding the loss of sight. If the optic nerve was damaged after birth, it may be possible.
