The austral replaced the Peso Argentino at a rate of one to one thousand. It was itself replaced by the peso at a rate of ten thousand to one. COINS The coins had the following values: 1/2, 1, 5, 10 and 50 centavos, 1, 5, 10, 100, 500 and 1000 australes. Centavos Australes BANKNOTES The austral Banknotes had the following values: All banknotes except the provisionals, show on the back the Liberty with torch and shield. The provisional banknotes were done with the old Peso Ley design where the word PESOS was erased. The current value was stamped on the back . For example: A 10 MIL (meaning 10,000 australes).
